i've been lucky enough to be asked two years in a row by mike and rachelle if i might take some photos of them and their precious nora together. last year, we bundled up on a chilly late fall morning and captured some keepers of the 3 of them to use as their christmas card, etc. this year, rachelle made sure she was ahead of the game and emailed me a few months in advance, asking when we could shoot together again, before it got too cold and because nora was turning 2. absolutely, yes. nora brought her a-game. it was a lot of me running ahead of her to get her instantaneous facial expressions as she ran to the camera. and it was a lot of asking her to do things while she totally had other ideas of what she'd like to do. but we got the hang of it- enough to grab some darling shots of the 3 of them together.
i think my favorite part about this session, though, was the freedom behind it. i'm so grateful for the trust mike and rachelle had in me to produce beautiful candids of our playtime together that day. i know we were sweating. i know we were running around with nora. but nora will be never be 2 again. and that's how little ones are at 2- with minds of their own. i was so happy with what we got because so many of the images capture how they interact as a family now at this time in their lives. there are images of nora exploring, mike & rachelle playing with her how they normally would, and genuine laughter. lots of that. i wanted to make sure i was there to grab the priceless family moments. i kinda wish i had some of these photos for myself, of me with my parents when i was 2, candidly playing around with them. it's those moments that you just can't replace and i'm thankful we captured some that day.
